Our 2005 PT Cruiser developed some strange electrical gremlins. At random, when started, the car would fail to activate some of the power accessories such as windows, windshield wipers, radio, directional signals... These symptoms were "self-healing" most of the time after driving awhile. I checked all of the chassis grounds and feared that I needed to replace the expensive TIPM (totally integrated power management) relay board. Out of desperation, I replaced this ignition switch. It solved all of the problems! I disassembled the old switch module and the copper surface of the internal contacts were green with corrosion. This is a pretty easy repair, but you need to have a "security" Torx T10 to remove some of the screws holding the switch in place. I bought a cheap security T10 for $4.
