The ignition coil is a crucial part of your ignition system. It's function is to convert the 12 volt power of your vehicle's electrical system in to 35,000 or more volts. This produces a high intensity spark at the spark plug which then ignites the fuel in the cylinder. Coils in general will wear out over time. This will cause a misfire condition. In engines like this with one coil per cylinder you can diagnose a coil by putting a timing light on each one to make sure it is lighting the light consistently.

  1. step : Removing the Air Intake Box (0:57)
    • Remove the two 8mm bolts holding the top of the air box
    • Remove the two hose clamps with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Twist and remove the two vacuum lines
    • Pull the air intake box up and out
    • Twist the air intake hose collar off
  2. step : Removing the Ignition Coil (2:45)
    • Disconnect the locking tab with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Disconnect the ignition coil wiring harness
    • Remove the 10mm bolt from the engine coil
    • Pull the ignition coil up and out
  3. step : Installing the New Ignition Coil (3:59)
    • Insert the ignition coil into place
    • Insert and tighten the 10mm bolt
    • Connect the ignition coil wiring lead
    • Replace the locking pad
  4. step : Installing the Air Intake Box (5:01)
    • Twist the air intake hose collar into place
    • Insert the air intake box into place
    • Insert the two vacuum lines
    • Insert and tighten the two hose clamps with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Insert and tighten the two 8mm bolts holding the top of the air box
