Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money preparing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear gate lock actuator on this 2000 S-10 Blazer, same as a S-15 Jimmy as well. Tools you'll need are a Phillips screwdriver and a T-27 torques driver. If you have to replace the bracket that the actuator attaches to as well, you will need a drill to drill out rivets, although I don't show that. I talk about it in the video but I actually don't show it. I just in this video replace the actuator itself.
You want to remove your interior trim first. You're going to start right back here. There's a Phillips screw right here. You want to remove that Phillips screw. We'll speed up removing that screw and then after you remove that screw you want to open up your tailgate. On this pole there's a T-27 Torx screw. We'll speed up through that and then adjust the camera angle a little bit. Once that screw's out then just grab this corner up here and give a good firm tug and that screw's going to pull out. Other corner, tug it down. At the top here, tug it down. Then your top corner, tug it down. Looking from the passenger side, here's your actuator here. There's a little orange safety catch that you pull out. It's probably easier first, there's two Phillips screws right here.
We'll speed it up through removing those screws. I will tell you that these were not the easiest two Phillips screws to remove that I have ever done for sure. They were a little bit tough, a little bit difficult. Just a little bit of pressure and some turning the torque. Once you have those two screws removed, you kind of pull the actuator out, press on the black tab right here and disconnect your harness. Pull your actuator out like this and then it can disconnect from the arm here. You can you the new actuator from 1A Auto. Here's an actuator from 1A Auto. It comes with this whole bracket. What happens on these is sometimes this arm falls off. In that case it won't work. If you need to replace this whole bracket, you would want to drill out these two rivets. You drill them out and then you take the broken bracket out and then you would put this back in.
What you can also do is if it's just your actuator is bad then just like the one on the car, unscrew it. Just like in our vehicle, take it and undo the bracket. Put it up in there. We'll use our original screws. Plug it in. Put this orange locking tab back in. There's one other screw. One quick test. Lock. One more. This has two locating pins. It's got one in there. Get that one in. Connect our T-27 torque screw back in. We'll speed up through that, then put your tailgate down and install that last Phillips screw and you're all set.
