In this video, we're going to show you how to replace one of the front window motors on this 2001 Chevy Malibu, same as any 1997 to 2003 Malibu. We'll show you the driver's side door, very similar for the passenger's side door as well. Tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver and a 7mm socket with a ratchet and extension.
Using an 8mm wrench, disconnect your negative battery cable. This is more just to protect your battery from running down when you have the door open.
We're going to fast forward through removing the door panel. If you want to see this in regular speed, you just check out our other videos but there's probably enough here to figure it out. Remove the switch, unplug it, remove the bezel around the door handle, and a couple of other bezels, and pull the door panel off.Pull down the plastic water shield so you can access the window motor.
There's three tabs that just hold it in. Press down on this tab, pull it out some, pull up on this tab and pull it out some. The last one, put a screwdriver in here and take another screwdriver or something, push out on this tab, pry out on the whole motor, and then pull it right out. Take your screwdriver, push on the connector and disconnect it.
Actually there's nothing wrong with this original motor so I'm going to put it back in. The motors from 1A Auto go in just the same as the original, connect just the same as the original. Reconnect it. There are little tabs or little posts that go into the holes in the motor. Push it on as far as you can. Now, reconnect your window switch. Now, I'm going to reconnect the battery. I've got that reconnected, and I've got the battery reconnected. I'm going to turn the ignition on. I'm going to push on my window motor and run the switch down. Now my window motor just snapped into place. Make sure all the tabs are secure and go up and down with the window.
Now, just put your water shield back in place. Make sure the harnesses are correctly back through the cutouts. You can disconnect your battery again if you like or just put the door panel back on from here. Like the beginning, we're going to fast forward through putting the door panel on. Make sure you pull those harness through and then everything kind of goes back in reverse order and then in addition to this, just make sure you reconnect your negative battery cable and you'll be all set to go. If you want to see replacing this door panel in regular speed, just check out our other videos.
