How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken or snapped off interior door handle on 00, 01, 02, Chevy Subruban

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Pry off the window switch panel by hand
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harness
- Remove the 8mm bolt behind the switch panel
- Remove the 8mm bolt behind the door pull
- Remove the 8mm bolt at the bottom of the door panel
- Pull off the mirror base trim panel by hand
- Pry off the inside door handle bezel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull off the inside door handle bezel over the handle
- Lift the door panel up and off
- Pry the courtesy light out of the door panel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Disconnect the courtesy light wiring harness
- Disconnect the door speaker wiring harness
- Disconnect the door lock wiring harness

step 2 :Removing the Door Handle
- Unclip the inside door handle latch rod with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the 10mm bolt from the inside door handle
- Slide the door handle forward and off

step 3 :Installing the New Door Handle
- Clip the latch rod onto the inside door handle
- Put the inside door handle into place
- Insert the 10mm bolt into the inside door handle

step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Pry out the manual lock switch with a flat blade screwdriver
- Connect the speaker wiring harness
- Connect the door lock wiring harness
- Pull the courtesy light wiring harness through its cavity
- Connect the courtesy light wiring harness
- Push the courtesy light into the door panel
- Push the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Push in the manual lock switch
- Insert the 8mm bolt behind the door pull
- Insert the 8mm bolt behind the switch panel
- Insert the 8mm bolt in the bottom of the door panel
- Slide on the door handle bezel
- Push the bezel into place
- Push on the mirror base trim panel
- Connect the window switch wiring harness
- Push the switch panel into the door panel

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the interior door handle on this 2002 Chevy Suburban. It's the same part and similar process on these Suburbans from 2000 to 2006. We show you on the passenger's side but the driver's side is the same procedure. The items you'll need for this are a new interior door handle from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screwdriver, 8mm and 10mm socket, and ratchet.
Start off by prying up your switch panel and then, pushing the tab on the harness and disconnecting it. Next, remove this 8 millimeter bolt, this 8 millimeter bolt right here, and this 8 millimeter bolt at the bottom of your door panel. We'll just fast forward as Don removes those three bolts. Pull out on this triangle panel and then pry out on this panel from the outside and then, slide it over the handle and out. Now, lift the door panel up and pull it free. Next, pry out your courtesy light and just push it through the door panel, and then, pry out on the tab and disconnect the harness. Push the tab on this harness and disconnect it. Then, pry out on the tab on this harness and pull it free. There your door panel is free.
Using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry this clip off your door handle rod, and then lift it out. Now, remove this 10 millimeter bolt, right here. We'll just fast forward as Don does that. Now slide the door handle towards the inside of the truck and pull it free.
On the bottom, is the old door handle; above it, is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. Take your new door handle and push the rod back down into place and reclip it. Then slide those tabs back into the door and slide the handle back towards the outside. Just replace that 10mm bolt.
Now, to make putting the door panel back on easier, it helps to just pry out your manual lock switch. It just pulls right out. Then you want to reconnect your harnesses, and then pull your courtesy light harness through the door panel and reconnect your courtesy light. Then, push it back into place in the door panel. Then, put those hooks into those bottom slots and then slide the door panel back in place. Make sure all the clips are lining up, your harnesses are pulled through, and that it's fully back in place. Now, line up the rod with the manual lock, and push it back in, and then, replace those three 8 millimeter bolts. Now, you want the inside of this panel to go in first, so slide it over your door handle, and then, tuck that inside end in first, then the middle tab, and then, the back tab. Replace this triangular panel and then reconnect your switch pack harness, push the back end and then push the front end, and you're all set.
