step 1 :Removing the Hood Support
- Support the hood with a piece of wood or have an assistant support the hood
- Pry off the clip at the top of the hood support with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull off the top of the hood support
- Pry off the clip at the bottom of the hood support with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull off the bottom of the hood support

step 2 :Installing the New Hood Support
- Push the bottom of the hood strut into place
- Push the top of the hood strut into place

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the hood support on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. The only tools you'll need for this is a flat blade screwdriver and something or someone to safely secure your hood while you do this procedure.
The support is held in with two clips, one at the top and one at the bottom. To remove them you just pry out on the clip and pull the piston free. You want to make sure you have someone or something safely holding up the hood. Then pry out the bottom clip and pull the piston from the stud. It's free.
Take your new one and just push it onto the studs, and you're all set.
