Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the fuel filter on this 2003 GMC Envoy XL. The items you'll need for this are a Phillips screwdriver, pliers, a drip pan, and jack and jack stands.
We're going to need to release the pressure from the lines, so open up this fuse box, and you want to find your fuel pump relay which is going to be one of these guys in here. Okay, it looks like fuel pump right here is number 41. Number 41 is this one. Take this off. Again, 41 is this one hanging out right here. It's this guy, so we're going to start up the vehicle and then pull this relay out. The engine quits as it runs out of fuel and we'll shut off the key. That now has released any pressure that's in the fuel system and we can actually put this back in. Just make sure we don't turn the key on again. If you turn the key on again, you'll re-pressurize the system.
There's still going to be some fuel in the lines and a little bit of pressure, so you just want to remove this cap and then push in on the tabs. Make sure you have a drip pan underneath and this will just drain the rest of the gas out of there. Now push the tabs on either side of the hose and pull it free. Do the same thing with this hose and then remove the Phillips screw at the top of the fuel filter. That'll loosen up the clamp and then you can pull your fuel filter up and out.
Take your new fuel filter and put it into that clamp and replace that Phillips screw once you've got it in place. Then just tighten up that Phillips screw. Now if you have these caps, just remove those and push your hoses back into place. Make sure this cap's all the way back on and then you're all set.
