In this video, we're going to be working with our 2006 Ford Explorer. We're going to show you how to raise and support your vehicle at home with a floor jack and a set of jack stands. We're going to show you how to raise the front and the rear individually. However, if for some reason you need to lift all four corners of the vehicle and have four jack stands available, you'll want to follow the procedure for the front and then the rear to raise the entire vehicle together. If you ever need parts for your vehicle, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1Aauto.com.

This Explorer is a body-on-frame vehicle, which means the body sits on top of a full-steel frame. This means we can jack it up from just about anywhere safely, but to make it easier we'll jack the front up from this crossmember here. You want to get right in the middle to make sure you lift up both sides of the truck evenly. Place your jack stand on the frame on each side of the vehicle as close to the front as your can while still being on the flat portion. Count the number, the number of notches that it is on this side to make sure we set it the same on the other side, so we lower our vehicle down, it'll sit level. Here we have six. With our jack set to the same height on this side, we'll slowly lower our jack down onto the stands. Before attempting to raise and support your vehicle, always be certain that the vehicle is in park or that the e-brake is on, or that a chock block is in place on the tires if necessary to ensure that the vehicle doesn't roll. Here's an example of what can happen if the vehicle moves while being lowered onto the stands. Oh. With your jack-stands in place, slowly lower the vehicle onto the stands.

You should only have to raise and support half of your vehicle at a time in order to work on it for most procedures. However, if you do need to raise and support the entire vehicle, you can follow these steps for the front and rear together and support the entire truck.

To lower the front of your vehicle, jack up on that same cross-member we started on, jack it up until the weight of the vehicle is off of the stands. Then, pull the release lever and remove the stands from under the vehicle. Once the stands are safely out from under the truck, slowly lower the jack until the wheels are back on the ground.

When raising only the rear of your vehicle, be sure to chock the front tires on a rear-wheel drive truck like this, before raising the rear end. However, if the front end is already raised and supported on jack stands, it's okay to lift the rear.

Now, on this vehicle we also have a rear carrier here where our rear suspension bolts up to. This is the best place to jack up the rear of the truck. Again, you want to get that right in the middle to try and raise up the truck as evenly as you can. Once again, where this is a fully-framed vehicle, we'll support it from the frame. We have six teeth coming out of the jack stand, so we'll make sure we have it set up the same height on the opposite side before lowering the jack.

If you're doing the entire vehicle, be sure that the rear stands are set to the same height as the front. Once the stands are in place, slowly lower the vehicle down onto them.

To lower the rear of the vehicle, whether you've done just the rear or if you've lifted the front of the vehicle as well, always lower the back first. We'll jack up on that rear carrier until the weight is off of the jack stands, at which point we'll lift the safety arm to collapse them and remove them from under the vehicle. You can now lower the vehicle slowly onto its wheels.
