This harmonic balancer and belt drive pulley is a new, aftermarket replacement part. This dampener pulley mounts to the front of the engine on the crankshaft, and is used to dampen engine vibration.

  1. step : Disconnecting the Battery (0:50)
    • Locate and get familiar with the serpentine belt diagram
    • Disconnect the negative terminal with a 10mm wrench
  2. step : Removing the Intake Tube (1:50)
    • Remove the Phillips head screws from the top of the throttle body cover
    • Remove the 7mm bolt in the back of the throttle body cover
    • Remove the engine cover
    • Loosen the two intake tube hose clamps with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pry the intake tube off
  3. step : Removing the Radiator Fan Shroud (2:26)
    • Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner
    • Turn the tensioner clockwise to tighten the belt
    • Remove the two 10mm bolts on the water pump pulley
    • Remove the 36mm fan clutch nut
    • Remove the two 10mm bolts atop the fan shroud
    • Remove the fan and shroud together
  4. step : Removing the Starter (3:36)
    • Remove the 13mm nut securing the ground
    • Remove the ground strap
    • Pop off the red cap
    • Remove the 13mm at the top of the starter solenoid
    • Remove the 10mm nut securing the signal
    • Remove the signal and main power starter grounds off of their studs
    • Remove the 13mm bolt at the top of the starter
    • Remove the 13mm bolt at the bottom of the starter
    • Pull back and remove the starter
  5. step : Removing the Harmonic Balancer Bolt (6:53)
    • Remove the four 10mm bolts securing the plastic cover underneath the radiator
    • Pry out the push pins with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pull the cover down and out
    • Brace off of the differential with a pry bar into the one of the teeth
    • Rotate the bolt on the harmonic balancer counterclockwise
    • Spin the bolt halfway out by hand
  6. step : Removing the Serpentine Belt (8:17)
    • Familiarize yourself with the route of the serpentine belt
    • Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner
    • Turn the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt
    • Pull the belt off the alternator
    • Release the tensioner
    • Remove the belt
  7. step : Removing the Harmonic Balancer (8:44)
    • Insert the harmonic balancer puller into the two threaded holes on the balancer pulley
    • Tighten the puller against the bolt with a 19mm wrench
    • Release the balancer from its splines
    • Remove the puller
    • Remove the balancer
  8. step : Installing the Harmonic Balancer (13:32)
    • Line up the groove on the inside of the harmonic balancer with the key way on the crankshaft
    • Slide the balancer on as far as possible
    • Use the longer bolt from the puller to install the pulley
    • Tighten the 19mm center bolt to the pulley
    • Secure the flywheel teeth with a long pry bar
    • Tighten the 19mm center bolt to 37 foot-pounds
    • Add 90 degrees of torque
  9. step : Reinstalling the Starter (15:33)
    • Lift the starter up into place
    • Place the largest wire on the top terminal and secure it with a 13mm nut
    • Place the wire on the side terminal and secure it with a 10mm nut
    • Tighten the bolts to the wires
    • Install the signal wire and its 10mm nut
    • Reinstall the red cover
    • Install the 13mm bolt at the top
    • Install the lower 13mm bolt
    • Reinstall the ground wire
    • Tighten the 13mm nut to the ground wire
  10. step : Reinstalling the Serpentine Belt (18:37)
    • Loop the belt around the crank pulley
    • Bring it over the water pump
    • Bring it under the A/C Pulley
    • Bring it over the power steering pulley
    • Try to bring it under the idler pulley
    • Bring it around the belt tensioner
    • Pull the tensioner clockwise with the 3/8 inch ratchet
    • Pull the belt over the idler pulley
    • Inspect that the belt is fully on the pulleys
    • Release the tensioner
  11. step : Installing the Radiator Fan Shroud (19:25)
    • Insert the fan shroud into place
    • Turn the 36mm nut a couple of threads and hand tighten it
    • Reinstall the two 10mm bolts atop the fan shroud
    • Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner
    • Turn the tensioner clockwise to tighten the belt
    • Tighten the fan clutch nut
    • Tighten the two 10mm bolts to the water pump pulley
  12. step : Installing the Intake Tube (21:06)
    • Insert the air box into place
    • Connect the MAF sensor
    • Connect the breather tube
    • Insert the intake tube to the throttle body and the air box
    • Tighten the two hose clamps with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Insert the engine cover
    • Tighten the Phillips head screws to the throttle body cover
    • Tighten the 7mm bolt to the throttle body cover
  13. step : Reconnecting the Battery (21:55)
    • Reconnect the negative terminal
    • Tighten the 10mm negative battery terminal
    • Reinstall the bottom radiator cover
    • Press in the push pins to the cover
    • Tighten the four 10mm bolts to the cover
