Vehicle Fit

This replacement electric fuel pump is just what you need to get your vehicle in good working order again!

This electric fuel pump module assembly features the following specifications:

  • Mounts in fuel tank
  • Replaces dealer part number: 88957239
  • Complete module assembly
  • Electric fuel pump already mounted as shown
  • Includes items shown
  • Direct replacement
  • Correct electrical connections
  • Built to strict quality control standards
  • Fits 4 & 6 cylinder engines

Note: This fuel pump is equipped with a new design improved connector. Depending on applications, slight modifications may be necessary. Instructions are included with new fuel pump module. The same instructions are also attached to this listing for reference.

For 04-05 Malibu classic vehicles, the 4th digit in your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) needs to be a an "N".

This electric fuel pump module assembly with sending unit is a great replacement and has substantial cost savings over a dealer unit.

Our electrical and electronic parts are subject to strict quality control testing. Please ensure proper diagnosis of this item before purchasing as the item cannot be returned once installed or plugged in.

This fuel pump includes a new electrical connector harness. You will need to remove your existing electrical connector and install the new connector provided in order to install your new fuel pump (instructions are included with the pump).

This fuel pump is not a universal fit item. Because your vehicle’s original connector is prone to failure due to corrosion, cracking, loose pin housings, and wire crimp issues, the OE manufacturer has changed the shape of the connector, requiring the install of a new electrical connector during fuel pump service.

  1. step : Depressurize fuel system (1:30)
    • With the car running, open the hood and access the fuse center.

    • Grab onto that hose and twist it free and pull it off.
    • Unplug the connectors by pulling out the safety tabs.
    • Unclip the green clip behind the fuel tank by prying the tab and pinching to disconnect the line.
    • Make sure you have a catch pan ready because this will leak fuel.
    • Repeat on the upper line with the blue tab.
    • Use a screwdriver to help if it’s difficult to reach.
    • Disconnect the rest of the hoses.
    • Loosen the heat shield between the exhaust and the tank.
    • Support the tank and remove the straps.
  4. step : Remove assembly (8:03)

    • Pull the fuel pump assembly up and out.
    • Remove the old O ring
  5. step : Install new fuel pump (10:06)
    • Put in the new O ring
    • Place the new assembly in and lock the locking ring in place by turning it clockwise into the brackets.
    • Secure with hammer and chisel.
    • Plug in the new lead and use wire taps to connect the wiring with the old square ended lead.
    • New large black lead connects to the old black lead.
    • New thin black lead connects to old black and white lead.
    • Purple and purple leads connect as do the grey ones.
  6. step : Reinstall the fuel tank (13:49)
    • Jack the tank back up.
    • Bolt the straps back in, tightening the bolts with a hand wrench.
    • Reconnect all the harnesses.
    • Reconnect the big tube.
    • Reconnect all the fuel lines, remembering to remove the little green line protectors.

Wire instructions wrong
2000 cavalier plastic tank swap large black and grey wire locations or fuel pump runs in reverse pumping no fuel
January 2, 2016
Fast delivery and excellent price. As noted by someone else, the wiring instructions were wrong. Other than that, it worked like a charm.

Works Okay So Far
Installed on 2004 Chevy Cavalier. Its been running okay for about a week or so. My problem was the gasket was a little big for my tank that it barley fit and the plastic top part of the pump barley fit over the gasket. This resulted in the first install being messed up and overfilling and having to do it all over again. The second time I was super careful about trying to get the best seal possible with the gasket. I also had the gaskets keep falling out of one of the fuel lines that I thought was odd and a pain in the rear. For wiring we followed the instructions it came with that were accurate. We just had to be careful to look at the plug in the right direction as the paper. Just make sure the color wires match up in the diagram in the way you are looking at it. Recommendations: 1. Be very careful getting a good seal on the gasket. 2. I suggest having a 5 gallon gas can ready and a cheap hand pump to pump out as much gas as possible to make the tank as light as possible to re-install it. 3. Before re-installing the tank we plugged everything in and turn the key to make sure it spit fuel out of the line we were expecting it to. 4. Make sure you take the tap off the pump float. 5. Make sure your pump is turned enough so the float isnt under a plastic (air) piece in the tank or it will hit that as you fill up your tank and so your gauge will get stuck about halfway.

Fuel pump
Works great, been having for a few days. Easy to install, color match all the wires and you shouldnt have a problem. Just make sure to at least put 8 gallons in order to see the fuel gauge move up of not it will show like its empty.

DID NOT RUN This pump did not work at all
I will never buy anything from this site again the pump was installed correctly and double checked by a mechanic and would still not run. I had to install the old pump I was updating. I am currently trying to get ahold of customer support and get my money back for this piece of junk part.

Worked like a charm!
I ordered this fuel pump for my husbands 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. The part was super easy to order and super easy to install with the help of the Installation video by 1AAuto. When I ordered the part there was also a list of tools I would need so I could get everything together before crawling under the car, which saved loads of time looking for this tool or that tool! I would order this part again and recommend it for others! I plan on ordering a few more parts for my Tahoe too.

Highly recommend!
Was skeptical about buying a fuel pump that wasn’t $200+ like the rest but this pump has been installed for about 3 months now and works like a charm! Installation wasn’t hard either, learned that you have to use the thicker o-ring for it to work. Works great and car has never ran better

Customer Q&A
Ask a question to 1A Auto customers who purchased the product
can you put an in line to bypass pump in tank?
Carl E February 28, 2016
Yes if it provides same fuel pressure as needed but why go to all agravation just replace original
Travis S February 28, 2016
They may make some sort of in line pump but this isnt the one. However, I installed this pump in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and it was pretty easy. There was a metal cover in trunk just behind the back seat that gave easy access to fuel pump.
George B February 28, 2016
Not recommended as this design uses the fuel to keep the pump from overheating.
Brian F February 29, 2016
Does it come with a fuel pressure regulator ?
Walter damon N August 27, 2018
No, you would have to buy that separately
