How-To & Tools

This 4X4 Engage Solenoid is just what you need to get your four wheel drive system working again! The factory solenoids commonly fail due to cracking and leaking, resulting in failure of the four wheel drive system.

  • Controls 4X4 engagement
  • Correct electrical connections
  • Durable construction
  • Direct bolt on replacement
  • Built to strict quality control standards

Note: There are two solenoids located side by side in the housing; engagement & disengagement. The simple way to know which is which is the key way location: holding the solenoid with the connector at the top and vacuum lines on the bottom, the engagement solenoid key way will be at the 9 o'clock position (to the left), the disengagement solenoid key way will be at the 6 o'clock position (bottom).

If one of the two solenoids fail, the 4 wheel drive system will be inoperative. Both solenoids must be functioning properly for the system to operate.

Our electrical and electronic parts are subject to strict quality testing.

Parts cannot be returned after they have been installed. Contact us with any questions before installing the parts.

Will this cause the 4x4 dash light not to turn on to 4high or 4 low?
Nehemias N January 5, 2016
Hello, If your 4WD is not engaging, it may be related. If your 4WD is working fine, then the issue is related to a switch on the transfer case.
Brian F January 6, 2016
I have the same problem, dash light is on, but 4X4 dont engage !! 04 ford F150
Horacio M December 10, 2018
Dash lighting will continue to work even if four-wheel-drive selector switch is bad.
Roger P February 19, 2019
I’m a little confused, the description where it tells you how to tell which is the engagement and disengagement solenoid it says the engagement is at 9’o clock (left) and the disengagement is at the 6’o clock (bottom) they are side my side wouldn’t one be on the left and the other on the right? I’m just confused on what’s on the “bottom
Jason C November 7, 2017
The 2 ports on the bottom are for the vacuum lines. My truck only has one solenoid. My advice to you would be look at how yours is hooked up and take a picture of it and when you install the new solenoid or solenoids depending on your vehicle hook everything up like it was. Hope that helps
Jason R November 8, 2017
They are referring to the detent on the solenoids. My 03 F150 both solenoids are on the passenger side engine bay firewall, right behind the batter. The have detente as described.
