Vehicle Fit

Part Details

  • Quantity:   10 Piece Set

The ignition coil is a crucial part of your ignition system. It's function is to convert the 12 volt power of your vehicle's electrical system in to 35,000 or more volts. This produces a high intensity spark at the spark plug which then ignites the fuel in the cylinder. Coils in general will wear out over time. This will cause a misfire condition. In engines like this with one coil per cylinder you can diagnose a coil by putting a timing light on each one to make sure it is lighting the light consistently.

Perfect fit
Coils were a perfect fit for my 2001 Excursion. All signs of a misfire are gone and now running like new. Best price I could find anywhere and the free shipping is always a plus. Definitely would recommend as a cheap tuneup.

Cost effective
I get parts from local parts houses at discounted rates due to being a business owner. These are the same thing they carry, but for much cheaper. Used on my personal vehicle. Great buy!

Reliable replacement for aging Coil Over Plugs
I had at least one of my old coils going bad on my Ford Excursion, resulting in loss of power when under load (going up a hill) after the engine had warmed up. Eventually, the check engine light went on showing a misfire on one of the cylinders. I purchased this ten pack and replaced all ten coils (while also replacing and tightening down the ten SP-479 Motorcraft spark plugs gapped to 0.054 in. All ten coils ran well right out of the box, wiring connectors latched tightly to these coils to ensure a solid hold. I did squeeze some dielectric grease (purchased separately) into each coil boot before installing to ensure there was good electrical contact with the spark plugs. Engine runs like new now with a stronger idle and no more power loss under load. I cleared the check engine light with an OBDC tool and no new check engine codes are being triggered. Shipping was fast and well packaged. Package was padded very well with lots of packing bubble fill as well as each coil individually boxed. These appear to be high quality and I expect them to last a long time. Plug #5 on the Ford V10 is quite difficult to access due to its tight location. If you are going to be changing the spark plugs, I would advise having quite an assortment of extensions (3" and maybe 5"), a set of needle nose pliers in case you need to pull a stuck coil boot out or socket stuck to the plug, and most importantly one of those sockets with the universal joint built into it (I think it is 5/8" spark plug). The reason for the plug socket with the universal joint is two-fold: 1) to make it easier to ratchet the spark plug out at the limited access angles, and 2) so the top of the spark plug socket is closer to the top of the spark plug cavity in the event that the ratchet or ratchet extension disconnects from the socket - if the socket gets stuck on the spark plug, you can use the needle-nose pliers to get a grip on the top of the universal joint to pull the socket off the spark plug and out of the spark plug cavity. If you are using a typical spark plug socket without the built-in universal joint, it will be stuck too deep in the spark plug cavity and will be very difficult to retrieve. I would also advise having a flexible magnetic pick up tool in the unlikely event that a socket, extension, or bolt ends up slipping out of your hands and falling into the engine compartment.
