In this video we're going to show you how to remove the third door handle, the door handle for each of the rear doors, I guess we would call it, on this 2004 GMC Sierra Extended Cab: a pretty easy operation. You just need a T27 Torx bit with a ratchet. You take the third door handle, a pretty easy replacement, it's just two T27 Torx bolts and what you want is a T27 bit with a ratchet, like that. Just remove these two bolts.
It's funny, the owner of this truck said to me, "Why would you want to do a video for that? I never use it." That kind of rang to precisely the point of it. These either break because they get used a lot or what will happen is they'll never get used and the mechanisms inside will get gunked up or frozen up and somebody will go to use it and break it.
I'll show you a little later how to lubricate the mechanisms too, so you don't have that happen. OK, we'll fast forward here just a little bit. OK, so the handle just comes right out. Here's our new handle from 1A Auto. You see it's all the same; it will go in the same.
Now before you put it back in, though, what you want to do is, this is the latch mechanism, you just see you just push it into there, what you want to do is spray some lubricant right down in here. I spray some stuff right down in there and then we'll open it up. Open it up and up here, you'll want to spray and then down below at the bottom and there's another latch. This is the latch that will really get gunked up and frozen.
Now take our new handle and you can see this plate kind of shifts back and forth and it has the bolt holes in it. Put your bolt through and you kind of want to force the screw in and pry it to the side a little bit to get it started into that plate. OK, and we'll just speed it up here as I finish installing those two T27 Torx screws.

Okay, friends, to get started on this handle, it's gonna be very simple. We're gonna remove this mounting bolt right here and this one right here. To do that, you'd use a socket that looks just like this, it looks like a star. It's a Torx bit. You want a T30. There's our first bolt, and our second, and there's our handle. Once you've compared your new handle to your old and you know everything matches up perfectly, it's time for the install. This right here goes down along the bottom. Let's put it right in there. Start in both of the bolts and then we'll snug them up. Okay. Let's test it. It's definitely latched. Perfect.
