Hey, I'm Brian, I'm here to give you guys a little tutorial on some window regulators. The specific design is the scissor design. We actually get a lot of calls on these products here and the common question is: The part I received seems different than the part in my vehicle.
The scissor design actually has a flip design and we're actually going to show you how to fix this here. The most common thing that you want to do, or the first step you want to do is lay the parts out side by side. Try not to match them up in the car because this can get confusing. Take it out, lay them side by side, and what you actually see here is a same exact part for the same model vehicle in the same door. As the appearance shows here, they seem to be mirrored.
If you look down at the bottom here, we have the power window motor. This is the piece that is actually powered to lift and lower your glass. The next section down here is . you actually have your gear drive. Here's your mounting plates on both. As you can see, it's identical. You have your tension spring here. If you notice on the upper section here, it's kind of reversed. You're going to think normally, I get the wrong side door. You're going to give us a call and you want to express that to one of our customer service reps. I'm going to show you how to fix this.
Basically, pick this up by the base and you want to scissor or flip. This is how you're going to fix the issue. It's going to actually match the component as shown there. You can now see that both of these components here are the same part and you're ready for installation.

In this video we're going to replace the front window regulator on this 2004 Dodge Ram, same for any 02' to 08' 1500, as well as the 09' 25 and 3500's. Tools you'll need are a T40 Torx driver, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, and 10mm socket and ratchet with an extension.
To remove your front door panel, you're going to start by removing a T40 Torx screw and hold your handle on, right there. Then you're going to remove four Phillips screws, one there, one up here, and two down on the lower part of your door panel. There's my T40 Torx driver. We're going to speed it up here, take that T30 screw out, and then your handle comes off. Then I'm going to start with the Phillips screw drivers, take those two off. Then slightly take my jacket off so you can see my 1A Auto sweatshirt, and remove the two lower Phillips screws.
Now I use a regular screwdriver to carefully pry up on your switch plate here. Then pull it up. Both of these connectors, they have a little button right here. Press the button and work the connector to the switch; same thing here. There's a button right there. Now you're just going to life the door panel up over the lock here, take it off. You're going to want to use a 10mm wrench or a socket and ratchet. There's a bolt here, there's also a bolt there but it's missing. Not sure of this door maybe has been taken apart before. Then there's a little clip right here that you either push down with your hand. Just pull it down, and then you're going to pull this rod right out.
Then you want to carefully pull your water shield down. Pull your water shield back. Your regulator is held on by four bolts here; one, two, three, and four. There's two bolts that hold a bracket here, and then there's two bolts that hold the window. I want to demonstrate to you how do you get it apart if it's stuck in the up position. You would remove these two nuts right here. Now we'll just speed it up a little bit, as I'm removing those two 10mm nuts. I'm reaching behind, right here is my lead, and I'm just reaching in there. There's a tab on top, pulling that lead that. I'm going to remove these four bolts over here. Now we'll just fast-forward through me removing those four bolts.
Now I can bring my window down. With my window down some I can see there's that 10mm nut there, and there's a 10mm nut there. Those hook the window to the window regulator. Once I loosen them you can see that I would slide it over to the right, which allows the track to go out around that nut. I'm going to tape the window right there, so id doesn't fall down. Now I've got my hand stuck down in the bottom here. I'm holding up the regulator by the motor. I'm going to flip it off the track up here. I'm going to reach up in, carefully, and pull it from the door and bring it down. I'm going to push it towards the outside of the door.
Here's my original regulator, and new regulator from 1A Auto. You can see everything is pretty much the same. It's actually just in a different position here. It has the cut outs for the window bolts right there and everything. The actual lead is the same. Ours does have this little longer lead, actually makes it a little easier to get together. On the other side, it has the balance spring. This bracket has the bolts and everything.
Before you go to install your regulator, what I like to do, is get my window all the way in the up position. I'm going to put my new regulator in. I'm going to thread this bolt three quarters of the way in, and this one three quarters of the way in. Put the regulator down in, reach in with my other hand. Grab the - Now with my right hand I have the motor. There's that bolt and my other bolt. My two bolts here are in. Let's see here, push that one up through and put a nut on there, just slightly. Then twist it a little. Push it off, I just need to push it. Push the regulator back, so I have a little clearance here. Get those on. Now I'm going to start that bolt and that bolt. I'm going to tighten these up.
Now I'm going to reach under here, feel my lead coming down. I got my connector from the door. I'm going to bring my lead our around this harness, just so I know it stays out of the way. No I can turn my key on, run my regulator up so I can see my track. Now I can see my track right through there. Then right there, except I'm going to run it up just a little more. Tape off my window. Slowly slide my window down. Got that one on, and that one is on.
Now basically you reach in there, and you might have to rotate the window a little bit; move it up and down a little bit, so you can slide the track all the way onto the studs. Just speed it up a little bit. Tighten up those bolts that hold the window. Tighten up the nuts on that track. Run the window up and down to just check it. Make sure all the other bolts are tight. Put our water shield back on. Reinstall our handle, and make sure that that rod and clip are in place. Then you can put your door panel back on.
We are going to continue the fast motion here, as we put the door panel back on. If you want to see this in regular speed, just check out our video Dodge Ram door panel installation and removal. Probably you can get enough just by watching here. Put that door panel on, put it in place, slide it down onto its clips. The four Phillips screwdrivers, I'm sorry, the four Phillips screws install them. Put your switch plate back in place and press it down into place. Then reinstall all your handle with your T3o Torx but. Then put your little lock bezel back on.

Looking at your door panel, you're gonna see your inner door handle. You wanna go ahead and remove that 10-millimeter headed bolt that's in there. Let's get the handle out of the way. Next, let's move along to getting this off right here. Let's use our plastic trim tool, and remove this master switch right here. There we are. Go ahead and pull on this tab. Set this aside. Now we need to remove our four Phillips head mounting screws. You'll have one up here, one in the center where your handle was, and then two along the bottom. Grab your panel like this, and carefully lift up. There we go. Now that that door panel's out of the way, let's continue on by getting this out of here. If you grab onto this white tab, push down, it's gonna unlock, and then you can remove the rod from it. Next, let's continue on by removing our two 10-millimeter mounting nuts. Grab onto the unit itself, draw it away from the door.
Now, let's move along to removing our vapor barrier here. I like to use a tool that looks like this, made of plastic, so I don't scratch my paint. And we're just gonna try to get rid of this butyl tape here. So now that we have the vapor barrier out of the way, what we need to do is line up our window regulator with some holes, so we can get to the mounting nuts. If you were to bring this up to approximately this point, obviously I have access to this one right here. And then if I was to look through this hole right there, I'll be able to see I have access there. And if you look up at the glass, you can see that it's not all the way up. It's about three finger lengths away, just like this. So, with that said, if for some reason yours isn't, what you could do is just reconnect this back in, put your key in the on position, put the window up to this point so you have access to both those mounting screws, and then we'll continue.
The next thing we're gonna need to do is make sure that our window's held up. The easiest way for me, at least with what I've got here, is I just have a couple suction cups, and I'm putting them right along this bottom lip. I put them on the inside and on the outside. That's gonna prevent the window from coming down. If you don't have suction cups, just use a little bit of tape, go up and over the top. Let's go ahead and take off our mounting nuts. Now, with the key in the on position still, what we wanna do is bring our window regulator so it's in the closed position, or a window down. Make sure it doesn't latch onto that window. There we are. Let's turn off the key so there's no way it can move.
Now it's gonna be time to start unbolting things. You're gonna see that you have two mounting nuts over here. You'll see one, two, three, four mounting bolts. That's what's holding in the window regulator. Let's start taking it apart. Awesome. So, now what I need to do is take a screwdriver, come through this hole, and I'm gonna lift up on that gray tab. That's the lock. Once you've done that, take the same screwdriver and push on the black tab that's in the center of the gray, and then lift up on the actual harness itself, and it should separate. At this point, we're gonna start taking this out of the door itself. There it is, friends.
Now it's gonna be time to install our brand new window regulator. Let's go ahead and line this up. Slide it right on in. Let's go ahead and start in these bolts now. Now I'm just gonna reach up in here, and I'm gonna reconnect it. Listen for a click. There it is. Lock it down, that little gray connector. So now I'm gonna line up those studs. Goes through here. Let's go ahead and start those nuts as well. Okay, now, with the key in the on position, let's go ahead and bring the regulator up, so it matches up with our window. Okay. Obviously, you wanna be careful at this point. Gonna line up those areas with the window studs. Perfect. Let's go up a tiny bit more. There we are. Now you wanna make sure that you slide it in, because if you look at it, you can see that it has a large area. Once you line it up, just slide it over, just like that. And now we're gonna put on the nuts for there.
Okay, that's bottomed out. Teeny bit more. Do the same to the other side. Nice and tight. All right, let's get these off of here. Let's test our window real quick. All the way down. All the way up. Perfect. Now let's get this vapor barrier back on here. You just wanna pay attention to this area right here, because that's where the rod is. Pull that through, line it up with approximately where you got it all from, and then, of course, make sure it's stuck back on. Let's get this bracket back on there. We want this so it's facing down. Slide that right in there. Lock it in, of course. Start on both your nuts, snug them up.
Now it's gonna be time to get our door panel back on, but before we can do that, let's get this little cover out of here. This is where that door lock's gonna be. That's gonna make it so much easier for us in the long run. Now let's put this up to the door, grab our wiring, make sure it comes through. Come up here. We wanna come high, that way there, all those hooks can fit into their corresponding holes. I'm pushing at the same time as I'm letting this come down. Okay. Okay, I'm just gonna feel along the whole way, make sure I'm sitting completely up against the door.
Let's grab this right here. Gonna go ahead and lift up on that door lock, pop this on in there. All right. Move along to our window switch here. Lock this in. Okay. Make sure it's locked in. Perfect. Now let's move along down here to putting in our handle. So now we're gonna get our handle on here. I'm just gonna get my tool ready so it's already on the handle. Put it in so it lines up with its spot. Make sure that's snug. Perfect. Now it's gonna be time to put in our mounting screws. Let's go ahead up here. Gonna use the two larger ones first. One down here. Awesome.
