Worn ball joints or loose rear bushings can cause excessive front tire wear, popping or creaking in the front end, extra play in the steering system, and pose a serious safety concern. Replace that heavily rusted, rotted, or damaged front upper control arm with the loose bushings or worn ball joints with our high quality all in one replacement.

One way to diagnose a loose, or warn ball joint on a control arm, is to jack the car up, so the wheel is off of the ground, then have someone try to move the wheel in and out. While they are moving the wheel check the ball joint and bushings for play, if it is moving you probably need to replace it.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:31)
    • Loosen the 19mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Upper Control Arm (1:10)
    • Straighten out the cotter pin with needle nose pliers
    • Remove the cotter pin
    • Jack up underneath the lower control arm to relieve tension
    • Loosen the 22mm castle nut a few threads
    • Hammer out the ball joint or use a pickle fork
    • Relieve the jack
    • Loosen the two end bolts with two 22mm sockets and ratchets
    • Remove the bolts
    • Remove the control arm
  3. step : Installing the Upper Control Arm (5:30)
    • Remove the ball joint guard from the new control arm
    • Insert the control arm into place
    • Slide the end bolts and washer into the control arm
    • Line up the ball joint with the steering knuckle
    • Press the ball joint through
    • Thread the castle nut on
    • Tighten the castle nut
    • Torque the bolt to 57 to 76 foot-pounds
    • Install the cotter pin
    • Bend the tabs on the cotter pin
    • Jack up underneath the lower control arm
    • Tighten the end bolts with 21mm sockets to make it snug
    • Torque the bolts between 83 to 112 foot-pounds
    • Lower the vehicle on the jack stand and remove the jack
  4. step : Reattaching the Wheel (8:44)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts between 83 and 112 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern

Perfect fit
Ordered these parts because my truck hadn't been properly taken care of before I bought it. Upper control arms order
I had ordered a set of upper control arms for my F-150 . This company not only sold the control arms but the bushings and upper ball joint was already in there. They had beat all there competition. For researched all the different sites and found an original equipment parts for an excellent price. And the install I performed myself. was easy .
