What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them?

Tapered bearings are better than roller ball bearings at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars.

Roller ball bearings have spherical ball bearings between two straight rings (called races). Tapered bearings use tapered rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside to the inside of the bearing. The greater the angle, the more axial load the bearing can handle.

Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. This type of bearing handles cornering forces better for trucks and large cars. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing will result in increased wear and faster failure.

Customer Q&A
Ask a question to 1A Auto customers who purchased the product
will this fit the 5.3 liter engine?
Aaron S April 11, 2016
Yes it does and you cant bit the package for the price
Leo E April 11, 2016
Yes it will. I put this on my 04 GMC Yukon.
Danny R April 11, 2016
Breaks are based on tonnage not engine. If you have a 1500 4WD in the proper year range this should fit; if you have a 2500 or 2WD it will not. Check the OEM numbers listed against your model.
Christopher F April 11, 2016
Yes my chey tahoe has the 5.3 liter and they were a exact match to the stock hubs and brakes
Dirk B April 13, 2016
Engine size is not a factor. If you have a 1500 4wd in the proper year range they will fit.
I S February 6, 2019
Do you have this pad/rotor/hub kit for a 2004 2WD Tahoe?
Jaylin B May 3, 2016
We carry all the components for your model, just not in a kit like shown here
Brian F May 3, 2016
Who makes this kit?
Matt H September 1, 2016
I do not know the origin of the parts but I have them installed for over a year with no issues.
Michael G September 3, 2016
We have a few different aftermarket companies build these parts specifically for us, as our 1A Auto house brand. They are manufactured to the same OEM specifications as the original part that came with your vehicle. If you have any further questions, please dont hesitate to ask.
Brian F September 7, 2016
Mine came with Brembo rotors & pads. The bearing was in a white box. I recognized the brand but cant remember it now.
R A July 14, 2017
The Rotors and pads were by NAKAMOTO. The wheel bearing and hub were packaged with only part numbers indicated. Instructions included torque specifications for all vehicles the parts fit.
Anthony M September 6, 2017
Do these brake pads make a lot of dust?
Donald P October 10, 2016
I Cant say they do but I live in the country. I drive on dirt and I use my pickup as equipment. Im satisfied with these very much and pice was great.
Ross H October 10, 2016
No
Pat S October 10, 2016
No they do not. With normal regular vehicle washes you should not see any accumulation on your rims.
Michael G October 10, 2016
These are the ceramic pads, and will generally cause less dust than a semi metallic pad.
