How to Replace Upper Control Arm 00-06 Chevy Suburban 1500

Watch this video to learn how to replace a loose, rusted, or damaged upper control arm. The experts at 1A Auto will show you how to replace the lower control arm on your 00-06 Chevy Suburban or Silverado, or GMC Yukon or Sierra.

  1. NOTE: After completing the procedure you will need a professional alignment

    step 1 : Removing the Wheel
    • Loosen the 22mm caps on the hubcap with the vehicle on the ground
    • Pull the hubcap free
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step 2 : Removing the Upper Control Arm
    • Mark the tab on the adjustment piece with a marker to mark the alignment
    • Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the brake line and move the brackets
    • Remove the ball joint nut with an 18mm wrench
    • Hit the wheel knuckle and control arm to break them free
    • Remove the 21mm nuts from the upper control arm bracket
    • Jack up the wheel underneath the wheel knuckle
    • Remove the upper control arm nut
    • Remove the bolts and upper control arm bracket
    • Place a nut back on and use an air hammer to knock the bolt out if it won't budge
    • Move the control arm up and down while pulling out
  3. step 3 : Installing the Upper Control Arm
    • Put the upper control arm into place and push the 21mm bolts in to hold it
    • Put the brackets on either side and realign them up
    • Angle the control arm down into the wheel knuckle
    • Replace the 18mm ball joint nut
    • Replace the 21mm nuts from the upper control arm bracket
    • Replace and tighten the two 10mm bolts
    • Put a grease gun into place on the end of the control arm and fill it up
  4. step 4 : Reattaching the Wheel
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft/lbs in a crossing or star pattern
    • Reattach the hubcap and tighten the caps

I am very pleased with the kit , I have a 04 silverado that needed the front end done. Shops were going to charge me over $2000 to rebuild. Alittle elbow greese and some patience , job complete in a day. I would definitely recommend you guys to my friends for parts.

Spent a weekend replacing all the parts that were supplied with the kit on my 02' Silverado 4X4 1500. I replaced all but three parts, via idler arms and one other part. Ball joints were fried so instead of paying $1000 to a shop I ordered this kit to do it myself. The parts fit exactly to spec, installation was fairly easy. Get em greased, then went to a shop to do final alignment. The truck handles better than it has in the last 6 months. Rides a lot smoother and doesn't jostle you so much if you hit a bump or a set of tracks. If I ever have to replace them again whether on this vehicle or another I will probably get this kit again.

Is a good price for all the parts included. I saved hundreds of dollars compared to dealership prices. Only problem is lower ball joints and outer tie rods have no grease fittings.

This kit was a perfect fit for my truck and all of the components slid right into place as i removed the old ones!!! would buy parts at 1A auto again!!! The only reason I only gave them 4 out of 5 stars is that one of the ball joints had the wrong size snap ring in it!! Had to run to a local hardware store ( after stopping at 3 auto parts stores ) to get the proper snap ring! A little aggravating but the project was a success!!! Thanks!!!

Everything installed and works great. I've bought products from 1aauto before and will again in the future. Great delivery speed. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it lacked some grease zerks where I feel there should have been. I realize the Moog brand probably has them at a greater price , but with the zerks I would have given the product a 5. Overall definitely would buy again and recommend

The parts fit really well on my 04 Silverado 4 wheel drive. I really like the price and the parts were really easy to install. I really appreciate the videos that one a Auto provide. This save me money that I did not have. My truck would have been down for a lot longer if I would have had to have a shop do the work. The one thing I do wish that was different though with the kit is that I wish that the outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints would have had grease certs on them, there was no grease cert for it and no hole where a grease cert would go. But my grandfather assured me that many of the factory sealed ball joints that aren't serviceable are pretty reliable these days. So again I really value the kit and the videos, thank you 1A Auto

2005 tahoe front end steering rebuild kit

Like the title says this review is for a 2005 ( and other models years) steering kit. I installed everything except for the lower ball joints. The install was simple and everything fit nicely. The biggest issue i had was with the pitman arm. Its a 4 spline unit and it seems the splines are off slightly which made the steering wheel cant about 15-20 degrees. And no i didnt install it wrong I dont know if it can be aligned out since i havent gotten an alignment yet. I tried zeroing out the front end (my mickey mouse alignment) in the meantime and was unable to. Another gripe i had was that some of the parts came with grease fittings and others didnt. Little strange but not a deal breaker. Obviously these arent the highest quality parts but for the price its been fine (its been on the tahoe for about a month). We will see how they hold up over time.

Everything fit as expected. My only complaint is that the lower ball joint is not serviceable. I'm one who greases my front end everytime I do an oil change. Also I don't like that the upper ball joint on the control arm isn't secured with a castle nut/ cotter pin. it's just a basic nut with a couple tabs on the bottom side to secure it. However everything fits as expected and seems to be of really good quality. Especially for the price, its hard to beat. This is easily 400-500 at your parts store.

Well I’m kinda disappointed in the fact that out of the 13 parts that came in the kit only two had grease fittings. All the parts I’ve replaced were original parts from factory meaning they were 19 years old they lasted that long due to having been greased on a regular basis. Even in your own video it tells u how to place the grease fitting to access it so it makes no sense why they don’t have them. Also if anyone is changing the center support bearing whoever manufactured it didn’t take in account for the steel plate that has to be put back on the bearing so this makes the pressed in bolts to short so don’t throw your old one away just yet you’ll have to knock the old ones out and use them. Hopefully the old bolts will hold up. I definitely will be asking more questions next time if I decide to order again puts me on the fence about it

Installed these on a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Z71 Truck had serious clunking issues, loose steering, bad ball joints, tie rods were worn out. After installing all the parts in the kit myself, I saved over $1,400 in labor at a garage and the truck is riding like it's brand new. Came with every nut needed and a few parts even had castle nuts when even the old parts didn't. Also easy to fill each boot with grease with included zerks.

I guess I should not expect perfect for this price, but it is good for the price I paid. All components were in perfect condition except one of the inner tie rods had a very micro amount of play. While this wont throw an alignment off, this quality can half the life of the part. However, I have bought these sets from 1A before without any issues, so this one may have been one that missed the Quality review. I used the rest of the parts fine.

So far the parts are working fine and my steering wheel play is pretty much gone now. The one thing I don't like about the idler arm, idler arm bracket, pitman arm, outer tie rods and lower ball joints is that they don't have the grease zerks to be able to add grease later when needed. Once the grease in them is old and gone, the parts will start to fail and won't last as long. But I guess that's why they are so inexpensive. They aren't made to the full OEM standards. They should work fine for a while though.

I recently ordered this kid end it came the next day as I paid 140 for next day delivery but in doing so I believe the parts that were needed in the care we’re not readily available and they may or may not have switched out or put two different parts that did not belong in the kit in place of the parts that we’re not in there I’m hoping because if not it’s pretty messed up either way I got two parts that did not go with what I needed this forAnd as for the quality of the parts that I put on a week not even a week after our beginning to fail and malfunction I guess you get what you pay for

I was skeptical considering most all auto parts are made in China these days and TRQ is definitely from China. To my surprise these parts are good so far. It's been a relief after so many parts off eBay and Amazon have been junk within the first week of install. After installing these 1a auto parts I can finally moved on to better things. Yes the whole kit is 250. I installed it about two months ago. It's the labor that's gonna kill you at least 750$ Unless your gonna install yourself. Parts are good quality with the exception of the lower ball joints. They just aren't the best. You will have to replace them after a while. You will notice noise on the lower end. Other than that can't beat the deal. Plus hardens parts come with a warranty for manufacture defects. Hope that helps. Zach p. Dallas tx

We would not recommend this kit for a lifted truck because of the additional strain. It would depend what type of lift however. Certain suspension lifts require special components, while a body lift or leveling kit would use the same OEM type parts.

Yes, they do. My experience was that some of them took grease easily (normally) and others were very challenging. If I recall correctly, I also had to install the zerk in at least some of the parts. The holes were there but the zerk had to be fitted.

You grease the rack and upper balljoints. The rack greases everything since the parts have a grease channel. Lower ball joints are sealed factory greased.
