Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:54)
    • Loosen the five 22mm lug nuts with a breaker bar
    • Raise and support the vehicle
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Slide the wheel off the hub
  2. step : Removing the Brakes (1:26)
    • Place a wrench on one wheel stud to counterhold the brake rotor
    • Remove the T30 Torx screw from the brake rotor
    • Remove the two 14mm guide bolts from the caliper
    • Pull the caliper off its bracket
    • Hang the caliper aside with a bungee cord
    • Pry the brake pads from the caliper bracket with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the two 16mm bolts from the caliper bracket
    • Make sure the emergency brake is off
    • Hit the rotor hub with a hammer to loosen it
    • Pull off the brake rotor
  3. step : Preparing the Brakes (3:35)
    • Pry the brake shims out of the caliper bracket with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Clean the brake shims with a wire brush
    • Clean the caliper bracket with a wire brush
    • Apply brake grease to the caliper bracket
    • Slide the caliper pins out of the caliper bracket
    • Clean the old grease off the caliper pins
    • Apply brake grease to the caliper pins
    • Slide the pins into the caliper bracket
    • Snap the shims onto the caliper bracket
    • Apply grease to the shims
    • Clean the hub surface with a wire brush
    • Apply brake grease to the hub surface
  4. step : Installing the Brakes (7:06)
    • Slide the rotor onto the hub backwards
    • Spray the back of the rotor with brake cleaner
    • Slide the rotor off the hub
    • Slide the rotor onto the hub normally
    • Spray the front of the rotor with brake cleaner
    • Install the T30 screw into the rotor
    • Put the caliper bracket into place
    • Start the two 16mm bolts into the caliper bracket
    • Tighten the two 16mm bolts to 30 foot-pounds of torque
    • Tighten the 16mm bolts an additional 90 degrees
    • Install the brake pads into the caliper bracket
    • Apply brake grease to the back of each brake pad
    • Remove the bungee cord from the caliper
    • Compress the caliper piston with pliers
    • Slide the caliper onto the bracket
    • Install the two 14mm bolts into the caliper
    • Tighten the two 14mm bolts to 20 foot-pounds
  5. step : Installing the Wheel (10:16)
    • Slide the wheel onto the hub
    • Start the five 22mm lug nuts
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 140 foot-pounds in a star pattern
