When pressing the ball joint in does it need to be oriented a specific direction? For example - Does the pin hole need to face the brake caliper or the frame of the truck?

Yes, you need to press them in. I watched a YouTube video on how to do it and used a loaner press kit from Auto Zone. The job was easier than I thought it would be. Especially after watching a video.

Both uppers and lowers needed to be pressed it on my 2001 suburban 2500. If I had it to do again I would have replaced the whole a-arm assemblies with new bushings and the ball joints already installed.
