Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:57)
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. step : Removing the Brake Pads (1:23)
    • Remove two 12mm bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull the caliper toward the outside of the vehicle to push in the piston
    • Pull the caliper aside
    • Pull the brake pads out of the bracket
  3. step : Removing the Brake Rotor (2:15)
    • Remove the 14mm bolts from the brake caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake caliper bracket
    • Loosen the rotor screws with a hammer and impact driver
    • Remove the screws
    • Pull the rotor off
  4. step : Installing the New Brake Rotor (3:34)
    • Slide the rotor on
    • Insert the rotor screws
    • Remove the rubber plug from the old rotor
    • Push the rubber plug into the new brake rotor with a screwdriver
    • Clean the bracket slides with a wire brush
    • Check that the bolt slides move freely
    • If necessary, clean and grease the bolt slides
    • Put the bracket back into place
    • Start the 14mm bolts by hand
    • Tighten the bolts to 45 foot-pounds of torque
  5. step : Installing the New Brake Pads (5:19)
    • Install the new brake pads into the bracket
    • Use a large C-clamp to push the piston back
    • Put the caliper on
    • Thread the 12mm bolts by hand
    • Tighten bolts to 20 foot-pounds
  6. step : Reattaching the Wheel (6:54)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to between 90 - 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
  7. step : Testing the Brakes (7:31)
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle
