Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (0:52)
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
    • If the wheel will not come off, thread two lug nuts and strike the tire to loosen the wheel
  2. step : Inspecting the Brakes (1:44)
    • Turn the rotor by hand or turn the steering wheel to turn the rotor
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads
    • Check for gouges on both sides of the rotor
  3. step : Removing the Brake Pads (2:09)
    • Loosen the two T45 Torx bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pry out the wire retainer with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pull on the caliper to push the pistons in
    • Pull the T45 bolts farther out with pliers
    • Pull the caliper off
    • Pry the brake pads out of the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Pull the brake line grommet out of its bracket
    • Hang the caliper aside
  4. step : Removing the Brake Rotor (4:53)
    • Thread the lug nuts on
    • Strike the middle of the rotor with a hammer, avoiding hitting the disc
    • Pull the rotor off
  5. step : Preparing the Brake Caliper (5:56)
    • Put a large C-clamp on the brake caliper
    • Tighten the C-clamp to push in the piston
    • Take the C-clamp off the caliper
    • Hang the caliper aside
  6. step : Installing the New Rotor (6:55)
    • Slide on the new rotor
    • Thread one lug nut to hold the rotor in place
  7. step : Installing the New Brake Pads (7:18)
    • Install the pad with the tab on the inside of the caliper
    • Install the other pad on the other side
    • Put the caliper on
    • Clip on the retaining wire
    • Start the T45 bolts
    • Tighten the T45 bolts to 30 foot-pounds
    • Remove the placeholder lug nut
    • Clip the brake line grommet into its bracket
  8. step : Reattaching the Wheel (9:44)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
  9. step : Testing the Brakes (10:33)
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle
