Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly: that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.

What I want to show you is just some tips for keeping these weatherstrips, once you've got the new ones all installed, keeping them in good shape. If you have one of these cars, you know how great they are. They are huge. They cruise very nice, but we have to admit, as much as I love them too, they are not the best designed cars. That especially goes for these weatherstrips. A couple mistakes people make are: one, you always want to have the windows rolled down when you put the top up. Then, you're going to see that we've tried to adjust this window every which way but loose, and what we've gotten to is basically you need to be pushing back when the window is coming up. You need to be pushing it back into the channel and in towards the car. You can see that it's contacting that and pressing against that.

Really the whole point of this is, you can see here, this is my window and here is the weatherstrip. Consider if my finger was just the window extended. When your window goes up, you want it to go into the weatherstrip. It pushes on this larger one and then goes in behind the outer. What happens too often on these cars is everything is just not quite right, and we've tried to adjust these windows, and it's really difficult. What happens a lot, and actually on the original weatherstrip on this car, the window will just go up, and it will just press into that weatherstrip incorrectly. Once it does that once, you can see the weatherstrip has a little bit of memory, and it stays like that. It will just keep going like that forever. Really, and you'll see me struggle with it, the first few times you roll up your windows, you want to make sure you get the window up in there the whole way, the correct way, and really every time after that when you roll up your windows, make sure that the windows get up in there correctly. Once your window presses in against that, that's going to allow your window to come out and shake, and you'll start having wind noise and things like that. That's kind of the point of what I do in this video is I just show you how to push in on that window and put it up, and you'll see me wrestle with it quite a bit.

As it goes up further, you want it to really . as you can see, I'm already . It's not doing a good job. It's actually going the wrong way down in here, and there's nothing in these windows that will pull the back in. I have to push on the window. Sorry, I just probably jiggled you all around. Basically, what I'm saying is you want to get your windows rolled up correctly. It's still not. It's okay here, but then, it's now falling in there. You want to try and get these windows rolled up. It probably takes two people to get them rolled up correctly the first time and get the weatherstrip in the right place.

What I think happened on these cars a lot is once it rolled out of the factory the first time somebody put it down, it probably was not rolled back up correctly, and the weatherstrip -- what happens on the original weatherstrips on this car, this one that's supposed to be outside the window was pushed in there, which shows that somewhere along the line, somebody didn't put this up correctly. What I'm going to do is just push really hard on the window here. I'm going in correctly there. I may have pushed a little too hard. You can see now up here it's not contacting this weatherstrip correctly, and it's not going to want to go underneath this one. It's a battle. Get my fingers in here. It's just very difficult to get these in correctly. I'm just going to push. Okay, there we go. You see what it's doing there. Part of the weatherstrip is out on top and part it is underneath. There we go. Now, I finally got it in there correctly.
