Wear and Tear

This item is backed by a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under its intended use. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Please keep your invoice for proof of this warranty.

  1. step : Removing the Wheel (1:07)
    • Remove the center cap
    • Loosen the lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull of the wheel
  2. step : Inspecting the Brakes (1:42)
    • Turn the rotor by hand or turn the steering wheel to turn the rotor
    • Check for gauges on both sides of the rotor
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads
  3. step : Removing the Brakes (3:06)
    • Remove the 1/4 inch bolts from the caliper
    • Pull off the caliper
    • Slide out the brake pads
    • Remove the 18mm bolts from the caliper bracket using a breaker bar or pipe for leverage
    • Remove the caliper bracket
    • Clean the brake pad retainers with a wire brush
    • Pull the rotor off
  4. step : Installing the New Brakes (6:37)
    • Put the new rotor in place
    • Hold the rotor in place with one lug nut
    • Insert the caliper bracket between the rotor and the steering knuckle
    • Start the bolts by hand and tighten them with the ratchet
    • Tighten the bracket bolts to 90 foot-pounds with the torque wrench
    • Push the caliper pistons in using a large C-clamp and the old inner brake pad
    • Insert the brake pads
    • Put the caliper in place
    • Start the caliper bolts by hand
    • Tighten the caliper bolts to 20 foot-pounds
    • Turn the wheels back straight
    • Remove the place-holder lug nut
  5. step : Reattaching the Wheel (9:58)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
    • Reattach the center cap
  6. step : Testing the Brakes (10:18)
    • Pump your brakes repeatedly until they feel firm
    • Test your brakes at 5 miles per hour and then 10 miles per hour
    • Road test the vehicle
