In this video we're going to show you how to replace the vapor canister vent valve in this 2006 Ford Explorer. We hope you like this video. Here are the items you'll need for this repair: hammer, flat blade screwdriver

The vapor canister vent valve is near the rear of the tank, so raise and support your vehicle. Come in under the passenger's rear wheel so you can see it right here on the frame right in front of the axle and right behind your fuel tank. The first thing we'll do is disconnect the lead. There is just a tab that's toward the front of the vehicle. Press the tab to pull the lead down. And the valve is held to the frame. There's just a couple tabs. I'm actually just going to break them. And the valve is still connected to two hoses. We want to try and twist those and break them free, so let me just kind of reach up in there and twist, and I'm going to pull it toward the front of the car first and get it out of the back hose.

I'm just going to go grabbing hold of that front hose and I’m going to twist it. I'm going to take a pair of pliers, and I've actually turned it upside down, so this is actually the top of it. I just want to make sure that these hoses are kind of twisting freely or broken loose. It appears that that one is on the inside as well. Use a large screwdriver to help push the hoses off.

So this is actually the top of the valve. Again, it's upside down. I've gotten that hose off of the block that's in the back, so now I can kind of pull down on the valve and pry up on the other hose and push it off. And the valve comes down, and we'll have to take off this piece of hose which without, it's pretty easy to just grab onto it and pull it off.

Here’s the original part from our vehicle and our new part from 1A Auto. You first look at it, you may think, "Oh no, it's not right." But this actually is made to be at an angle you need it to. It's exactly the same as the original. It's going to mount, same connectors, same mounting bracket, and all the same hose connections, and it'll be an excellent replacement for your original.

I'm just going to put this small piece of hose back on to this canister block. All right, then we'll feed the valve up in and I'll get the top one first. Push that on, hold the back and push it in, and then up into place and guide this hose on. You can also reach between the crossmember and the tank. Just hold the hose back there and just keep working it out back into the hose.

Just take your mounting bracket, swivel it in position, line up the two mounting pins and push it in, and lead connect your lead. Hold the top of it down. And then just pull the white bracket up and snap it down into place.
