In this video I'm going to show you how to place the driver's side power window motor and the procedure is basically the same as the passenger's side on this '98 Venture. The same as any '97 to '05 GM minivan, Venture, Montana, Transport, Silhouette. Tools you'll need are a 10 mm socket and ratchet, a flat blade screwdriver and a pair of large pliers.

First you're going to want to pry up this switch plate, okay and then actually unplug the three connectors. I find it easiest just to kind of press on these black tabs and then pry. Okay and this green one kind of the same thing. Use a screwdriver, press onto that tab, push. You have this mirror switch. Okay, there's a little tab right here that you need to pry back with your fingernail or a screwdriver and then pull the connector out. I've already done that before, so it looks kind of easy. That will require some force usually the first time. Now again with your screwdriver you're going to pry out this bezel here around your door handle. Now there are two 10 mm screws, one right in there and then one right down there. You need to remove those.

Okay, we'll speed up and remove those. I'm using a 10 mm socket with a ratchet and extension. Those are out, now there's a series of pins around the outside perimeter and then two right in here that you need to pull out. You can either use something like a putty knife or something to get underneath. I actually just work my fingers right underneath up here and give a good tug. Work down further, give a good tug. I work my way right around the door panel and it comes off. Next you're going to want to remove your water shield carefully and set it aside.

You'll want to unlock your window from your window track. It sounds a little weird but basically there's a couple of tabs, one here and then one here. You press those tabs. You press the tabs and at the same time, you see this is sliding. Slide your window track back, okay and that unlocks the window. Okay, you can lift your window up. Now you can see I lifted the window up. I used some painter's tape just to secure it.

Now to replace your window motor, I'm just going to get this harness kind of down out of the way here. There's a balancing spring right here. You want to take that off and what you want is a nice big pair of pliers. Grab a hook right here. When you let the thing go you've got to be ready; because, it is going to want to turn your wrist. You grab on to it. Ideally actually you want to have the window in the up position, but a lot of times that doesn't happen. You want to grab on to it and then release it. Like I said, it's going to really want to turn and so you want to make sure you have a hold of your pliers. Okay, and then one set balance spring's off, released. You have your lead here. Press up on a little tab right there. You need a screwdriver to press up a little more.

The window motor actually is just clipped in. There's three tabs, one, two, three. You probably want to get the bottom one and when the tab is released the window motor comes right out. I'm just going to re-install. There's nothing wrong with my original motor here. Maybe just lift up a little bit on your window regulator to kind of get it back in the same position and just put the window motor right in. It clips in. Make sure it's in there well and reconnect it. Now what you can do to make it easier to get this back together is hook your switch back up. Run your mechanism all the way. All that does is that should make this a little bit easier. Take your spring and grab onto it with your pliers. Let me grab onto this a little closer here. Make sure it's on there good. Now you can remove the tape from the window. I'm just going to re-check my spring a little bit, run it down.

It's good to bring it down about there. Slowly bring your window down. Make sure it stays in the track. Slide the track back. The window does need to go into these black clips here like that. Secure it and you're all set. Now we can put our harness back. Put our water shield back on. Re-install our door panel. Make sure you get all your harnesses up in the groove. I look back here; because, it's easy to see this pin. Guide it right in there. Then there's a pin in the front that just kind of guides it. Put the bezel back in there. This screw I put into my extension socket first. You want to tighten them up firm. You don't want to be too tight. They just go into plastic. The panel here lock the window and you're all set.
