  1. Removing the Wheel (0:52)
    • Loosen the 22mm lug nuts with the vehicle on the ground
    • Raise the vehicle with a floor jack
    • Secure the vehicle on jack stands
    • Remove the lug nuts
    • Pull off the wheel
  2. Removing the Caliper (2:01)
    • Remove the 21mm bolts from the caliper carrier
    • Secure the caliper bracket and caliper with a bungee chord
  3. Removing the Rotor (2:27)
    • If the rotor is frozen, make sure the e-brake shoes are spun down if they're contacting the rotor
    • Tap the rotor from the front with a hammer without damaging the hub's studs
    • Pull the rotor off
  4. Removing the Brake Shoes (3:14)
    • Chisel off the rear retaining pin with a hammer and pick
    • Remove the two brake shoe springs with the vise grip pliers, beginning with the bottom
    • Remove the brake adjuster
    • Remove the rear brake shoe from the mechanism at the top
    • Remove the brake shoes
  5. Installing the Brake Shoes (5:25)
    • Be sure that the larger, single groove is on the bottom
    • Thread the upper shoe spring into the shoes
    • Place the shoes onto the hub
    • Pry out the shoes and insert them into the mechanism
    • Twist on the front retaining spring with vise grip pliers
    • Put the adjuster into place
    • Insert the lower spring in with vise grip pliers
    • Thread the retaining pin into the brake shoe
    • Lock the pin onto the holder
    • Repeat the steps on the opposite side
  6. Reinstalling the Rotor (9:12)
    • Remove surface rust or scaling from the hub with a wire brush
    • Apply brake grease to the hub without touching the studs
    • Insert the rotor into place
    • Apply brakes parts cleaner to the rotor
    • Put your truck in neutral
    • Check that the rotor spins freely - a little resistance is ok
    • Adjust the e-brake shoes with the star wheel if needed
  7. Reinstalling the Caliper (11:35)
    • Remove the bungee chord from the caliper
    • Insert the caliper into place
    • Tighten the two 21mm bolts into the caliper bracket
    • Torque the 21mm bolts to 100 foot-pounds
  8. Reinstalling the Wheel (12:19)
    • Slide the wheel into place
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Tighten the lug nuts preliminarily
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds in a crossing or star pattern
