K & N Parts
Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald founded K&N Engineering, Inc. in 1964 in California. They were off-road motorcyclists who were tired of tediously replacing disposable air filters that, off the road, didn’t last too long. Replacing the traditional paper air filters with cotton to increase air intake, more off-roaders navigated to the product, and it has since been the air filter of choice for most motor sports and off-road enthusiasts.
What separates K&N from standard air filters is the fact that they’re washable and reusable, a technology they invented in 1969. They’re manufactured with cotton gauze instead of paper with an aluminum wire mesh that coats the outside. The air filters can be cleaned and restored with special cleaning oil and water.
Before offering air filters in 1969, K&N used to sell and rent motorcycles and accessories. K&N expanded its inventory by offering oil filters in 1980s. They also added air intake systems in 1992. These systems are known for protecting the engine as well as upping performance. Today, K&N is seen as a leading innovator and supplier of high-quality filters, air intake systems, and performance parts and accessories.
