step 1 :Removing the Hood Support
- Have an assistant or object hold the hood up safely
- Pry the clip out on each end of the hood support with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull the hood support off

step 2 :Installing the Hood Support
- Insert the clip into its slot and push it down into place
- Insert the lower end first, lift the hood up, and press the support into the attachment ball

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the hood support, the strut, on this 2007 Audi A4. Pretty easy procedure and the same for many of this generation, A4s. All you're going to need is a small flat blade screwdriver.
On each end of the support is a small clip that you want to pry out. I'm just showing you the clips here. You can either pry out and pull on the strut, or you can pry the clip all the way out. You'll want a person to help you, or you can improvise like I did here in using a piece of PVC pipe to hold up the hood.
Pry the top clip all the way out just so I can pull the strut off and make sure that that PVC support stays in place. You can pry the whole clip out without the strut coming off. I've got the clip out, I'm just going to get the support. Make sure the PVC pipe holds up the hood and it's safe, and I have the top out. Then I'm going to pull on the strut at the bottom and pry the clip up. It comes right off.
If you do have a strut and you need to get the clip back in, you basically pull it down from the top and push it right down in. You'll see two little slots on the side, first we kind of get into one slot first and then push the other side around into the other slot, then push it down.
Then you just put the new strut right in, put it onto the bottom first helps. You might have to lift up and just wiggle it around a little bit. I've got to lift it up and then get that tight out of there. Then you screw the hood around, put the support on the little attachment ball and pop it in place. You're all set.
