In this video, we are going to show you how to replace the outside door handle on this 2002 Focus, same as any 2000 or 2007 front door. Tools you'll need are a T20 Torx driver and a flat-blade screw driver.
To remove your door panel, you need to remove a series of T20 Torx screws. There's usually a little door on here, you would pry it out of the way in that little space and there's one screw. There are couple on the front here, one there and one further down and then there's four on the bottom and one there, two on the back there and there, and then you also pry off this panel here carefully from underneath. There's two quarter-inch bolts there and there. First, you remove this one. Then you use a screwdriver and carefully pry out here and reach in here and pry. Pull this panel out. There's a power window, if you look right here, you'll see a little tab, press on that tab, and disconnect that harness, pull this out. On here, there's a little tab right here, press, pull that out. This panel right here, just grab hold of it, pull it out, back and away. Now, I'm going to remove the two quarter-inch and all the T20 Torx screws. We're going to fast forward quite a bit through doing all that because it's pretty monotonous and you don't need to see me struggling with them, not that they're a struggle, but just don't want to bore you too much.
Once you have all those screws out, it helps to have the window down but it's not necessary, pull the door panel out, up and off the window seal here and the door panel is off. I'm going to pry off the inside door handle, it just makes it easier to get the door panel back on. Now, I'm going to carefully ... I'm going to pull this foam insulator out. It's just clipped on to a bunch of clips on the door and I'm going to carefully pull back the water shield and insulation from the door. To remove your exterior door handle, you want to remove this, pull off this plug and that exposes a T20 Torx screw right in there, remove that. Now, we're are going to fast forward through removing that bolt. It's along screw and once you've done that, just use a screwdriver, lightly pry right on that piece there and then your door handle slides back and then right out, like that. Obviously, to reinstall it, put the front in, push it in and forward. This has a tab on it that goes in to the door first and then on and then reinstall the T20 screw. Put our plug back on.
Just fast forward through putting that water shield back on and the big foam insulator that clips back on. Now, we take our door panel and make sure this little wire comes through there, the power steering part is there, lift this panel up and make sure our door handle wire goes there, on, and now, we can put on our T20 screw. Again, like before, we will fast forward through putting all those screws in. This can go back on, make sure you hook it on to the sail panel here first. There's a little slot right here that the handle goes into, make sure we get this out of the way, make sure the handle goes in, and it snaps in there. Now we could reinstall this panel, connect it to the power switch and connect the lock switch. Now, like that. Make sure this back part snaps in, snap the front part in and last, screw. Last but not least, put the top part up in first and it snaps back together and all set.

All right. On this driver's door panel we're going to start by pulling this piece off. Just grab a trim tool, get underneath here, and pry it out a little bit, and then it comes off towards the back. A couple little clips that got stuck in there. These little clips we're going to transfer them back over to here when we go to reinstall it.
All right. We want to disconnect this mirror switch. The easiest way to do it is to pop this through. Just push it through that way. Pull it through. And then there's a little tab right there on the connector. We'll just use a little screwdriver. Push on that tab. So we can get underneath the tab right there. Disconnect it that way. We can pull this trim off.
Now there's a little cover right here. We'll just take a small screwdriver. Get underneath there. Pop that cover off. There's going to be a T20 screw in there. So we'll use a T20 Torx bit, an extension, and a ratchet. Take this screw out. Pull that screw out. Next we're going to use a trim tool and take off this cover right here over the handle. Get underneath there and pry it up. There's two. This happens to have a couple mismatched screws. It's probably going to be a Torx screw or a Phillips head screw.
We're going to use a Phillips head screwdriver on this one. Take that screw out. All right. This screw has a quarter-inch head. So we're going to use a quarter inch socket, an extension, and a ratchet. It's loose, so I can just do it with extension. Loosen it up. Pull that screw out.
Next we have these Torx screws that go along the outside of the door panel and the bottom. There's six of them. I'll start by taking these off. I'm going to use a T20 Torx bit, an extension, and a ratchet. Take all these out. Take all these bolts out, I mean, screws out. There's two more of those Torx screws over here on the side, so eight in total. Take that one out and then we'll take this one out down here.
Okay. So we're going to pull this trim piece off. Just use a trim tool. Slide it underneath here, pop this off, pop this side off. Just pull it out. We're going to disconnect these electrical connectors. Looks like this one's messed up a little bit so I'll just use a little pick, push down, pull that connector off. And then over here, the connector right here, push that one down. Pull that connector off.
And we'll grab the panel, pull it out. Slide it up. Pull up on this back side, past the handle, pull the door panel up. Right. Now we're going to pull back on this, the weather guard. This has been off before so it was easy to take off. You could take a razor blade and cut it off. There's a little rubber grommet right here. Take that, grab it from the inside and push it out.
Now we'll access this little Torx screw right there. Can you see that? We're going to take a T20, an extension, and a ratchet, and we'll take that out. I'm going to have my other hand holding it on the inside so it doesn't fall. Loosen it up. I can get it by hand. It's an awfully long screw. Right. Pull that screw out.
Now I can take a trim tool, get in between here. Pry this out a little bit. You could use a screwdriver. And it pulls off like that. There's two clips that clip in. This thing slides this way. Once that's out of the way, I can grab the door handle, pull it towards the outside of the door, and pull it off.
To pull the gaskets off just grab it, or you can use a trim tool or screwdriver. Pull it out. There's a little tab there, two little tabs there around this side. Just grab this gasket. There's two little clips there that hold that in, just like that.
Okay, I'm going to install our gaskets. We'll just line this up, just like that. The same with this one. Line that up there and push those in there. Take our handle. I'm just going to slide this in here, get this lined up over here. When it's down then we're going to push it towards the inside of the car. Then we'll take this part, slide that in there, and lock it in place.
All right, now we're going to install this Torx screw. Slide it in with this hand, get it lined up, and then I'll use my T20 and an extension, and twist it in by hand. Once that's down just a little bit snug, and that's it. We're going to reinstall this grommet. Just slide it in right there.
Before we put the door panel back on, we're just going to test it, make sure our door handle works. Click the latch down with a straight head screwdriver. Make sure the door is unlocked, and then from the outside grab the handle and test it. And it's working.
Now we'll take the door panel, slide it on. Start in this corner. Work your way forward. Then angle it out a little bit. Make sure you pull these wiring harnesses through. It goes here, this one goes over here, just like that. Push it in all the way around.
Reinstall this bolt. This one, a quarter inch, with the extension and a ratchet. This one had a Phillips head screw. Yours may have that quarter-inch bolt. Tighten this up snug.
Now we're going to install these T20 Torx bit screws. There's eight of them. Two in here. Just get them started. And there's two on the back here. Taking this one down. Reinstall this handle. Goes this way, slides up there. Lock it in place.
All right. So we're going to slide the wiring harness through here first. I'm going to line this clip up with the door. One clip I left in the plastic trim piece, one clip I left in the door. Slide it on there and then push it that way. We can take this and connect this connector, line the tab up, lock that in. I want this to go in like this. And lock that in.
All right. This wiring harness comes up like this. Connect that to the lock. It's supposed to slide in over here, like this. Now we're going to connect the window switch back here, just like that. Snap that in place. And over here get this lined up. Oops. Click that in. We'll take our Torx screw and get that started, and then we'll snug it up. Take this little cap and push it on. Snap it in place.

In this video, we are going to show you how to replace a rear outside door handle on this 2003 Ford Focus. We show you the driver's side, but the passenger's side is pretty much the same procedure. The only tools you'll need include a small flat blade screw driver and a T20 Torx driver.
First, take a small screw driver. Right back in behind the door handle there is a little round trim button. Pull that out and then here go in behind here pry that out, and bring that out and down. Now, there are T20 Torx screws, two on the back. There are two down low, and two on the front as well as on in behind here. 6 1/2mm bolts in there. You can use a 6 1/2mm socket, or a 1/4 inch socket. Speed it up here as I use a T20 Torx bit and remove the six screws around the edge of the door panel and the one in behind your door handle.
Take this off. Right back here, there's this little tab. You may need to use your little screw driver. Press the tab down and disconnect. This panel comes out. Put your screwdriver under there and pry it out. Work your fingers underneath. Unclip it. I'm just going to fast-forward as I remove those two 1/4 inch or 6 1/2mm bolts. Now, lift your panel, pull the bottom out, and lift it up and off the window ledge. Pull your water shield down. Pull off this plug here as well.
If you look right in here, all the way back in let's see if we can show it to you here. There's a T20 screw right back in here. Now, from the outside, pull the handle out a little bit, get a screw driver in there, pry this piece out like that, pull your handle back out and off, and take these pads off.
Insulation of the new handle, you got your same, snap your pads right into place. Put the nose of the handle in first, and put the back of the handle in. Slide it forward, then put this piece on. Snap it down. Sometimes it doesn't snap down quite fully. Once you put the screw in it will snap into place all the way.
Now, moving onto my bit. Right here, put that rubber plug back in place. Reinstall, push it up and onto the window seal. .And I'm just going to fast-forward. All I'm doing right now is putting on the screws that go on the perimeter and the door handle. Those are the T20 screws, putting those in and tightening them up. And last but not least, make sure you put that triangle trim back in place, get it in place. Push it firmly, and it snaps in.

In this video we're going to show you how to replace an outside door handle on this 2003 Ford Focus. We're going to show you the driver's front door. The passenger's front door is a similar procedure. Tools you'll need are a small and regular size flat blade screwdrivers. You'll need a T20 Torx driver, and a 7 millimeter socket with a ratchet and extension. A flashlight would help on this repair.
On this door, first at the top corner, you're going to pull your trim out. It should pull. This has already come off. You pull out and then it pulls back and off. Then you can disconnect this. For this, take your small screwdriver and then you actually just pry right in here on this side of the connection, and pull it out. I'm just going to speed it up here. Those screws use a T20 Torx bit, so use your T20 Torx bit and remove all of them. You want to pry this off. It's easiest to get right here in the back, and pry that out. It comes right off. Go in with a 7 millimeter socket, with an extension and ratchet. A quarter-millimeter socket actually works as well. Remove these two bolts. And if you notice, I said a quarter millimeter, that's actually a quarter inch socket works just as well as the 7 millimeter socket. Now this panel actually, you reach right in here, hold firmly, and up here, pull firmly and pull this panel out. Then this disconnects. There's a little tab that's kind of back behind the wires. Push that tab down. Pull that out. The tab's actually right on the back, and push it down. Same thing over here, there's a couple of harnesses. They just have tabs that you press with your thumb and pull out. Disconnect it. Now you can just take your panel, pull it out and up, and it comes off. Carefully peel your water shield.
Now you go up inside the door and you'll see another T20 Torx screw. You can access it right through this hole. See if I can show it to you here. See the screw right up in through there? I'm going to fast-forward as I remove that screw. As it comes out you'll want to reach in with your other hand and basically, once it starts going easily, twist it out with your fingers and make sure you don't drop it down into the door. You need a screwdriver. A lot of times, your handle's pretty broken, but you basically have to force this piece back a little bit and pry it out. That comes out and off. Then your handle slides back and comes off. Then these pads can come off.
The new handle from 1A Auto comes with new pads. Put them on. Then reinstall the handle just like the original one. Push it in and forward. Put this in. It has to go in and back. You may have to pick up your handle a little bit. Put it on like that and it usually locks in place once you put the screw in. Fast-forward here as I put the screw back in. You might want to have an assistant with a light help you out. Get the screw in and then you can see I'm reaching around the door holding the back part of the door handle as I put the screw in. Make sure that your door is unlocked or that one of the other doors is open before you test it. While everything's apart, use some penetrating oil, spray the lock mechanism there and also spray the back side of it back here.
I'm going to fast-forward through putting the door panel back together. If you want to see this in regular motion, you can just check out our other videos, but hang the panel back up on the ledge, reconnect the mirror switch, reconnect the window switches and put those trim panels back in place and then put the bolts back in for the door pull. Now I'm going to fast-forward as I take those two 7 millimeter bolts, reinsert them into that door pole and tighten them up and then put the trim panel, snap it back into place. You want to put the top in first and then snap the bottom into place. And continue that speed as I just take the seven T20 screws. One goes in the door handle; the rest go around the perimeter of the door panel. Put those in, tighten them up. Last but not least, put the little trim panel over the screw in the door handle.
