Timing Belts, Chains & Components |
Your vehicles Timing Belt is a main component in your engine's timing and ignition cycle. The timing belt has teeth on the inside that mate to cogs on drive pulleys for your camshaft, crankshaft, and sometimes water pumps and distributor drives. The belt is usually held tight by a timing belt tensioner and different idler pulleys. Most car manufacturers recommend changing you timing belt between 50,000 and 70,000 miles (consult your owner's manual to see what your specific manufacturer suggests). Some vehicles have what is called an "Interference engine". What this means is that the pistons and valves in the combustion chamber occupy the same space at different times. In an interference engine the timing belt keeps things turning in time so the valves and pistons never collide in the engine. If your timing belt breaks in an interference engine you risk serious and costly damage to your engine. Our timing belts are made to the same specifications as the originals. They are the same length, width, and number of teeth as the originals. |
