    Temperature Sensor

Depending on the vehicle, the Coolant Temperature Sensor (sometimes referred to as a coolant temperature switch as well) can serve a few different roles: input for the engine computer, readings for instrument clusters, and a switch for the radiator cooling fans.  While modern vehicles get all 3 of these readings from the same sensor, it was not uncommon for older vehicles to have one sensor for each use.  If one of these sensors fails, you may experience overheating, an unresponsive temperature gauge, or cooling fan that refuses to turn on.
