What does the Pitman Arm do? The Pitman arm is located in the steering system and attaches between the steering gear box and center link (also referred to as the drag link). This steering arm pushes the drag link which in turns pushes the tie rods and allows your wheels to turn the vehicle.
Why would a Pitman Arm need to be replaced? Much like a ball joint or tie rod, there is a ball and socket assembly that wears down from friction and use over time. This process can be sped up if the part is not properly greased. Additional stress to the pitman arm can also be caused by worn out tie rods. |
