Hi. I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years' experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1aauto.com. The right parts installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we'll be showing you how to replace a mirror on this '98 Toyota Camry, same as any '97 to '01, and the only tools you'll need is a flat blade screwdriver and a 10-millimeter wrench or socket and ratchet.
Okay. We're going taking a rag and a screwdriver, and we're going to work them in from the top here. The rag is just to protect the paint, and you kind of work it down and then you pry against the door until the trim plate comes right off. Okay. Then once you get to that point, you have to remove this lower nut first. It's 10-millimeter, and this is on the car with the upgraded stereo, too, so you may not have this little tweeter here. You pull that off, out of the way, and then you remove this 10-millimeter nut and this 10-millimeter nut. Okay, so I've removed that nut. This one is loose. Here's the connector for the mirror. Just pull it off. Okay. I'm going to hold on to the mirror out here. Remove this last nut. Okay, and this usually takes a little bit of shaking. Okay, and then, you get your mirror off.
Okay. Now, most after-market mirrors come in black and, depending on the condition of your car, you might be okay with putting a black one on there, but what you can do now is if you look in the Yellow Pages for an automotive shop with a paint shop, you can drive the car over there, and they'll find your paint color, your paint code. They'll mix you up some paint, and they'll put in actually into an air charge spray can so you can do the repaint yourself on the mirror, and they'll match it pretty well. It may not be a perfect match, but it'll be a good match.
Okay. Obviously, you need to put the mirror back on. It's a reverse of the procedure. Make sure this gasket's all on here good. Okay. Kind of do this. Actually, I ... yes, that one's okay. Okay, on this car, I want to put that top one on. I'm going to tighten it. You want them to be firm but not too tight because your mirror is plastic. Then, on this car, with the little tweeter, I'm going to put that up in there. I'm going to put the lower nut on. Throw that on. I'll throw this on, and then I'll tighten them up. Okay. I'm just going to tighten up the bolts on the nuts here.
Okay. We'll take our trim panel. Okay. There's a tooth here that goes down into this hole, so kind of put it on here. Excuse me. I'm actually going to try and fix this. This should be underneath the panel. On this car, it had been allowed to pop out. See if I can get it on here the way I want it. Okay. Then I can see back in. I can see the little pin that goes into there, and it's back on. Correct. There you go.

If your original mirrors are not heated you may need to get the model of the mirror that's not heated.
The connectors are different.

Going back about 6 years, doing my first replacement with 1A auto, I called them, and was well advised, "Try to replace your mirror with the SAME/match the electrics as you already have in your car". I live in south Texas ….. mild winters. My 2007 Camry does NOT have heated mirrors, only electric adjustment. So...…… replaced mine with the same electric adjustment only mirror, and the auto loom plugs right in to the socket. (6 minute job) that looks original/good.

No, if your windows are not already heated proper installation will probably be needed unless your car model was fitted for either type of side mirrors when built.

Most vehicles are prewired for the premium options. I would check with the dealer and verify it.
