In 1934 the head of Nissan formed Nissan Motor Co. and production of Datsun passenger cars and Nissan trucks began. Nissan trucks, engines, and airplanes were used by the Japanese army during WWII. After the war, Nissan teamed with British automaker Austin Motor Co. and began producing Austin 7s as well. Using Austin's technology, Nissan created advanced engines improving Datsun vehicle performance. Nissan's next move was to merge with Prince Motor Co. bringing the Skyline under the Nissan umbrella. In the early '80's the Datsun name was discontinued and the Nissan brand officially took over. The brand Infiniti is a newer section of Nissan, marking Nissan's entrance into the luxury market.
