The Ford LTD was a luxury automobile produced from '67-86. Initially the LTD was a top of the line trim package for the Galaxie 500 in '65, but overwhelming popularity prompted its appearance as a separate car. Typically the LTD came equipped with a variety of optional V8 engines, including the famous Windsor. Unfortunately due to emissions controls and a high weight, the LTD had plenty of torque, but poor gas mileage and relatively low horsepower. Regardless comfort reigned supreme in the LTD. The Ford LTD was roomy, comfortable, and featured several luxury amenities all at a typical Ford price. Power windows, seats, brakes and steering were available as was air-conditioning. A major revamping of the LTD occurred for the '79 model, reducing its size, improving handling and fuel economy. For the final generation of the LTD, a mid-size version was built on the Fox platform while the full-size versions were renamed LTD Crown Victoria. In 1986 the Ford LTD was replaced by the risky new Ford Taurus, ending the era of Fords popular luxury vehicle.
