This Gates Timing Belt Solutions Kit is just what you need to keep your vehicle in good running order.

Gates has developed this application specific master kit to reduce overall labor time and expense when repairing accessory or timing belt systems. It allows for future services of these systems without having to remove the front bumper, grille, & radiator, saving you time and money!

Most car manufacturers recommend changing your timing belt between 50,000 and 70,000 miles (consult your owner's manual to see what your specific manufacturer suggests).

  1. Removing the Engine Cover (0:23 in the video)
    • Pull out the engine oil dipstick
    • Pull off the engine cover
    • Insert the engine oil dipstick
  2. Removing the Serpentine Belt (0:23 in the video)
    • Insert a small Allen wrench into the tensioner
    • Lock a pair of vise grip pliers onto the Allen wrench
    • Turn the tensioner clockwise
    • Slide the Allen wrench into the retaining hole in the tensioner
    • Pull the belt off the alternator pulley
    • Pull the belt up and out
  3. Installing the New Serpentine Belt (1:48 in the video)
    • Familiarize yourself with the belt routing diagram
    • Loop the belt around the crank pulley and the power steering pulley
    • Bring the belt between the tensioner and alternator pulleys
    • Bring the belt between the alternator and A/C pulleys
    • Push the belt around the A/C pulley
    • Check that the belt is routed correctly
    • Lock a pair of vise grip pliers onto the Allen wrench
    • Pull out the Allen wrench
    • Slowly release the tensioner
  4. Reinstalling the Engine Cover (5:35 in the video)
    • Pull out the engine oil dipstick
    • Push the engine cover into its cushions
    • Insert the engine oil dipstick

  • Vise Grip Pliers
